Eligibility

A prospective student must either hold or be expected to hold a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalency (e.g. GED) before matriculating at UIC.

Additionally, the student must be a non-Korean with non-Korean parents. If the student or any one of the student’s parents has dual citizenship with Korea, the student is NOT eligible for the International Students Track. Exception: A Taiwanese applicant with one parent of Taiwanese citizenship is classified as an international student for application purposes.

※ Unless the student submits 1) his/her AND 2) parent's Korean nationality renunciation paper by application deadline, we are sorry to say that the student’s application cannot be accepted.

※ The application paper to the Embassy (접수증) is NOT accepted, but the official paper issued by Korean government saying that the process is completely finished is ONLY valid.

The standard for judging the nationality of the student and the student’s parents will be based on passports. Foreigners with Korean ethnicity must submit legal documentation that verifies their renunciation of Korean citizenship.

1. Application must arrive at the UIC Office by the document submission deadline. The Admissions Committee may consider application postmarked earlier than the online application deadline as an exception.

2. Information regarding applications (e.g. arrival of application, application number, and list of missing documents) will be informed through the individual emails written on the applications.

3. Applicants who passed the first stage will receive two phone calls - First for the applicant verification and second for the interview.

4. Information regarding admissions (e.g. document review and interview results, date of the interview, admissions notification) and scholarships will be informed via individual emails written on the applications.

5. Information on visa, tuition payment and course enrollment will be sent to individual emails written on the applications. Students entering in the spring semester (March) will receive an email in late January, and students entering in the fall semester (September) in late May.

Admissions Process

The admissions for international UIC students is processed in two stages

The 1st Stage Document Review (200 Points) All applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee and are awarded a score on a 200-point scale. Applicants who pass the first stage proceed to the second stage for an interview.
The 2nd Stage Interview (100 Points) Applicants who have passed the first stage are interviewed by the Admissions Committee. The applicant’s performance on the interview is given a score on a 100-point scale.

1. International students will be evaluated by the Admissions Committee pursuant to the admissions procedures and regulations of Yonsei University.

2. Members of the Admissions Committee, evaluation scores and contents of evaluation will not be disclosed.

3. Evaluation of an applicant will be continuous and comprehensive during the admissions process (document review and interview).

4. The Admissions Committee offers admissions and admission scholarships to applicants based on the total points awarded during the admission process.

5. Admission may be cancelled if the student does not enroll for courses within two weeks from the first day of school.

Required Documents

1. Application (using the form provided)

2. [Apostille] Official transcripts* from all high schools attended

3. [Apostille] Certificate of graduation* or certificate of expected graduation* (in the latter case, certificate of graduation must be submitted before matriculation)

4. Two recommendation letters from high school teachers (using the form provided)

5. One copy of the applicant’s and his/her parents’ passports or ID cards

6. One copy of the applicant’s birth certificate or legal documentation that verifies the relationship between the applicant and his/her parents

7. Foreigners residing in Korea must submit a copy of the applicant’s passport and copies of his/her parents’ Alien Registration Cards.

8. Foreigners with Korean ethnicity must submit legal documentation verifying that the applicant and the applicant’s parents have renounced their Korean citizenship. Such documents include a Certificate of Family Relationship that shows Renunciation of Korean Citizenship, 국적상실사실확인증명 issued from Korean Consulate or 국적이탈사실확인증명 issued from Ministry of Justice, or a notarized copy of Alien Registration Card issued after the year 2011.

9. Receipt of application fee payment

※ Documents that require the submission of an apostille before matriculation. Students are required to obtain apostilles for these documents before matriculation. (Refer to "Apostille Requirement".)

Supplementary Documents

1. Documents certifying the scores of high school graduation exam or higher education entrance exam listed under the Test Information (e.g. SAT, ACT, GCE-A LEVEL, IB, AP, Gao Kao, Matura, CU-TEP, CU-AAT, Vietnamese High School Graduation Examination, etc.).

2. When applicants report the records of IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, AP etc. directly to Yonsei University, they must inform uicadm@yonsei.ac.kr of their English name and the date of the test so that the scores can be evaluated. When the students do not inform uicadm@yonsei.ac.kr of the reporting and, as a result, the scores are not evaluated, the responsibility lies entirely on the applicants. 3. Honors, awards, qualifications and documents that certify extra-curricular activities from high school should be filed with the List of Supplementary Documents. Provide copies with a seal affixed from the issuing institution.

Apostille Requirement

High school transcript(s) and certificate of high school graduation can be verified in the following ways:

1. Obtaining Apostille stamps on the documents if the student has attended or graduated from school(s) in a country that is a member of the Hague Convention (Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents)

2. Obtaining Foreign Education Validation

3. Obtaining Korean Consulate Confirmation

4. China Qualifications Verification of CDGDC (China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center) when the student has attended or graduated from school(s) in People’s Republic of China.

Miscellaneous

1. Applicants must provide a full name which can be verified through legal documents, such as passport, social security card, or birth certificate.

2. Unless stated otherwise, all documents must be originals. If an original document cannot be submitted, a copy of it should be submitted with a seal affixed by the issuing institution.

3. All documents must be in English. Documents in another language should be accompanied by a notarized English translation.

4. Documents submitted during the admissions process will NOT be returned.

5. Cancellation or changes after submission of application will NOT be accepted.

6. Admission may be cancelled in case a student:

  • Does not enroll for the courses within two weeks from the first day of school
  • Does not pay total amount of tuition fee within six weeks from the first day of school

We want to make it easy for you to apply. At Underwood International College, we offer two different application options. You can apply by choosing ONE of the two options below.

1. Direct Application to UIC

Applicants must submit BOTH an online application and an offline application.

Step 1. Online Application: Submit your Application

Applicants must apply online through the UIC website. All the information that you register on the website will be kept in confidentiality and used for admissions purposes only.

An applicant must enclose a receipt in the application package after making a payment according to the information provided below. If the payment cannot be made under the applicant’s name, please notify the UIC Office of the sender’s name.

Direct payment to the UIC Office is NOT accepted. The application fee is NON-refundable.

2. Using the Common Application

Applicants must submit BOTH an online application and an offline application.

Step 1. Online Application: Submit your Application on the Common Application website

You can use the Common Application system to apply to US colleges as well as UIC (https://apply.commonapp.org/Login?ma=697). Once you have set up a Common Application account, search and add “Underwood International College” then complete your application.

After transferring the application fee to the account listed below, applicants must enclose a copy of the transfer receipt in the application package. If payment cannot be made under the applicant’s name, please notify the UIC Office of the sender’s name.
