Grades Earned by Cheating or Dishonesty

If a student's grade is discovered to have been earned through the following, it will automatically become invalid and severe disciplinary measures will be enforced.

1. Cheating - giving or receiving of any unauthorized aid/assistance or an unfair advantage in any form of academic work.
2. Plagiarism - the process of passing off information as one’s own rather than attributing it to be the rightful owner of the idea
3. Falsification - statement of untruth, either verbal or written, regarding any circumstances relating to academic work.
4. Attempting any act which would constitute an academic integrity violation as defined above.

Student will get an "F" grade for the course in which (s)he cheated on, and will be granted “W” grade for all the other courses in the same semester for which an examination was taken after the examination in question.

Academic Probation and Dismissal

An undergraduate student whose grade point average (GPA) is below 1.75 (on a 4.3 scale) will receive a warning. 3 academic warnings (not necessarily consecutive) will result to dismissal.

Students should attend an interview with the department chair and receive counselling from a professional counselor before enrolling for courses.

First Warning: Students must consult their academic advisor or department chair. Enrollment is possible only after submitting counseling documents signed by the department chair to the Registrar's Team (Underwood Hall B101). Students at the International Campus should submit the documents to the department office.

Second Warning: Students can enroll for courses only after receiving counseling from the Yonsei Counseling Center. Appointment available through homepage (http://counsel.isuf.net).

AP/IB credit approval

A maximum of 9 credits from Advanced Placement (AP), IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Program) may be counted toward graduation requirements.

A maximum of 6 credits out of the 9 credits may be counted toward major requirements.

For more information regarding the list of AP/ IB examinations, the corresponding UIC course exemptions and the credit approval form, please refer to the related announcement uploaded at the UIC website or contact your academic advisor.

Academic Advisors shall review the credit approval request for both UIC elective courses and major courses.

Undergraduate Academic Honors

Yonsei issues a list of its undergraduate honor students at the end of each semester who have fulfilled the selection criteria then records them in the school registrar. The University College holds an award ceremony for the students receiving the highest honors award.

Students are excluded for Academic Honors considerations if:

1. Student earns less than 15 credits for the semester.
2. Student withdraws from a course.
3. Student receives a NP from courses with P/NP grading.

Selection Criteria for Distinguished Honors, High Honors, and Honors Awards

Distinguished honors: Students with a GPA of 4.00/4.30 or higher during the previous semester, and those within the top 1% of the students in their respective field of study or college.

High honors: Students with a GPA of 3.75/4.00 or higher during the previous semester, and those within the top 3% of the students in their respective field of study or college.

Honors: Students who are qualified for high honors and are within 10% of the students in their respective field of study or college.
